Congenital CMV Awareness Month 2025: Stronger Together
Author: Megan Pesch, MD, MS
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Congenital CMV Awareness Month 2025!
Each June, we unite as families, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and community leaders to shine a light on congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV)—the most common infectious cause of birth defects and developmental disabilities in the United States. This year, our theme is "Stronger Together," a powerful reminder that collaboration and connection are essential to advancing awareness, prevention, and support for those impacted by congenital CMV.
Together, we’ve made meaningful progress. More families know about CMV. More healthcare professionals are screening and treating it early. More states are considering or enacting legislation for education and newborn screening. But we know that far too many people still face CMV without the information, resources, or support they need.
Throughout June, the National CMV Foundation will be sharing stories of resilience, amplifying family voices, highlighting the latest research, and offering tools to help you take action—whether by educating others, advocating for policy change, or simply starting a conversation. Every voice matters. Every action counts. Because when we work together, we are stronger.
Thank you for standing with us. Let’s make this June a month of connection, courage, and momentum. Let’s be Stronger Together.
With gratitude,
Megan H. Pesch, MD, MS
