Compete 4 CMV

The National CMV Foundation launched Compete 4 CMV, our endurance event series, in June 2014 in an effort to generate awareness, as well as raise charitable contributions to help fund CMV research and education programs. Choosing to Compete 4 CMV means competing for yourself, inspiring your community, and raising funds for National CMV. You can help bring awareness to CMV as a Compete 4 CMV participant--whether you run a marathon, bike cross-country, or host your own studio fundraiser!

Get ready for the 5th annual Strides 4 CMV Worldwide Virtual 5k on June 29th! Your challenge is to walk, run, or roll for 5k (3.1 miles) from anywhere in the world. You can decide to create your own team or participate by yourself. If you want to host an in-person event, make it simple by choosing a route and inviting your friends and family to walk, run, or roll with you. We are looking for regional race captains, so if you wish to lead a group in your area, let us know here by sending an email. Sponsorship opportunities are available! If you are interested in sponsoring this year's event, please send us an email.

Registration is now open for the 6th annual Strides 4 CMV Minnesota! The 5k will be held June 15th come rain or shine! Early registration ends June 1st. Be sure to register early for a guaranteed shirt on race day. Interested in volunteering to make this event a success? To learn more about volunteer opportunities please send us an email. Sponsorship opportunities are available! If you are interested in sponsoring this year's event, please send us an email

Cycling for CMV Awareness 55

In August, Carol and Tom Vereecke will begin the third leg of their cycling journey as they continue to cycle through all 50 states over the next 5 years. Their goal is to raise both awareness and funds to support the mission of the National CMV Foundation. Carol & Tom have been inspired by their granddaughter and the impact that her CMV diagnosis has had on their family. You can follow along with their journey or join them on a ride by visiting here.

NYC Marathon

The 2024 TCS NYC Marathon will happen live on Sunday, November 3rd and we are pleased to announce that this year we have 5 amazing runners fundraising on behalf of the foundation! Cara Gluck, John Laufer, Jacob Laufer, Suresh Boppana, and Stephanie English are using their sneakers to support the foundation this year! Let's cheer them on as they train hard while working towards our fundraising goal of $50,000. Want to learn how you can help? Check out our team fundraising page to make a donation and to track our progress!

Walk 4 Hearing

Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the leading cause of non-genetic hearing loss in the U.S. The National CMV Foundation is an alliance partner of the Hearing Loss Association of America's (HLAA) Walk4Hearing event series, and a portion of the proceeds from your participation comes back to the National CMV Foundation. The HLAA Walk4Hearing is a national program that reaches out to the more than 48 million people with hearing loss, their families, friends, and hearing health professionals to raise awareness about hearing loss, good hearing health, and communication access.

Create Your Own Fundraiser for CMV

There are so many ways to support the National CMV Foundation’s mission to educate women of childbearing age about congenital CMV. Channel your unique talents, interests, and skills into an unforgettable fundraiser.

A few other ideas to get you started…

  • Start your own personal campaign by dedicating a birthday or other occasion to National CMV on Facebook or Instagram.

  • Gather friends and family by hosting a giveback fundraiser. Many local bars and restaurants will partner for charities for a giveback event – you bring in the crowd and they’ll give back a portion of sales – win-win! Checkout Groupraise for a list of possible partner restaurants.

  • Get your community involved by creating your own special event, like a walk, dinner, concert, or golf tournament. You can use GoFundMe to manage donations for your event.

Ready to get going? Check out our Fundraising Toolkit for set-up steps and resources or email us at events@nationalcmv.org to get started!

Nonprofits that raise funds from the public must comply with charitable solicitation registration requirements at the state-level, and we're proud to share that we are in compliance. National CMV joins ranks with some of the most credible and worthy causes out there – we are registered to solicit charitable contributions in every required state.
