Late-Onset Hearing Loss Awareness

Author: Diana Hanson, MS CCC-A Late Onset Hearing Loss (LOHL) is hearing loss that follows a passed newborn hearing screening up until age 5-6 years. LOHL Awareness Week was established in May 2021 to shine a spotlight on a population of young children who are often undiagnosed until later in childhood.

Meet Dr. Megan Pesch. Dr. Pesch is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician at CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, and she is mom to three daughters, her youngest born with congenital CMV.

Board Member Spotlight: Sallie Permar, MD, PhD

Meet Dr. Sallie Permar. Dr. Permar is a physician scientist focusing on the prevention and treatment of neonatal viral infections. She leads a research laboratory at Duke investigating immune protection against vertical transmission of neonatal viral pathogens, namely HIV and cytomegalovirus (CMV), using human cohorts and nonhuman primate models.
